More than one million visitors came to Berlin to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, which marked the beginning of the end of the Cold War. It existed from the 13th of August, 1961 to the 9th of November, 1989 and was the famous symbol for the divided world into east and west. 245 people left her lives at the wall for flee before the communistic system of DDR. On this day, it was thought to these courageous people and also on the day, as the wall fall. Already two days before the festival, they put up 8000 balloons straight through Berlin.

They symbolized the old course of the wall. The whole day of 9.November, there were many events which remind the history of the Wall. In the evening, a lot of people stayed on the streets across the wall of balloons. Thousands of people considered the biggest event at the Brandenburg Gate, where many important guests held there speeches, for example the Federal President Joachim Gauck, the former head of state of the USSR, Michail Gorbachev, and the Polish freedom-fighter Lech Walesa.

Particulary Michail Gorbachev criticised the contact with Russia in the Ukraine crisis and sent a reminder that the cold war could kindle again. At the end they allowed to rise the white balloons in the sky. The state chapel Berlin accompanied with the 4th sentence from the Beethoven’s 9th symphony “ode to the joy”.
